Skyrim is Bethesda’s most successful game, and with the PS4 coming out late in the year or early next year worldwide they will probably not be releasing any games on this current generation of consoles.
Why Not Just Print More Skyrim Money?
They are going to want to make more money off of the game before the next generation arrives.
On top of that, they’ll probably want to just have the same amount of DLC that Fallout 3 did.
Take into account that new engine will take time to build and new consoles won’t sell overnight.
Currently, the team at Bethesda is 100 strong, most of them are NOT programmers.
Making DLC rarely requires programmers, so they can keep making DLCs until the next engine is ready, in 4 years or so.
That would be logical for the most part.
Sure they can gamble and try another Fallout, but at that point they can just hire a separate smaller team to do that.
Let’s face it, Fallout is a gamble.
It doesn’t appeal to the same people.
They can’t gamble all their money on that franchise, it’s a sure way to go bankrupt.
Take into account The 3DO Company story.
Listed on NASDAQ in its prime, the creator of Might and Magic series went bankrupt in 2003 because they are diverting money from their successful franchise into a flop franchise.
Obviously, Bethesda can’t afford that kind of mistake.
Let it be clear though, we are not saying Fallout would be a flop, it is just not in the same league as Skyrim, which nearly reinvented Elder Scrolls franchise — again.
And most importantly, brought it decisively into the Dragons and Giants mainstream.
Skyrim sold more than Oblivion, nearly twice total number of units in global sales.
If this is still not a hint for Bethesda, we are not sure if there is any left.
Bethesda more or less likes to focus on one brand at a time, to give it maximum attention – so they space out news for different games and so on.
They might hold off on announcing a new Skyrim DLC until The Knife of Dunwall is released for Dishonored.
